Tickets available for 50th Anniversary of School Integration at Pocahontas, Sloan-Hendrix, Biggers-Reyno
Tickets are now available for the September 26 event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the integration of Randolph County’s African American students into public schools at Pocahontas, Sloan-Hendrix, and Biggers-Reyno. This event is jointly sponsored by the Eddie Mae Herron Center and the Office of Corporate and Community Education at BRTC.
The event, titled “Looking Back to See More Clearly,” is designed both to honor those students who walked through doors previously locked to them and to gain a deeper understanding of the human aspects of this historical event from the perspective of those students who experienced it firsthand.
The evening’s activity will be held in the Randolph County Development Center on the campus of BRTC in Pocahontas. It includes a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a program featuring Little Rock attorney, civil rights activist, and award-winning author Grif Stockley. Guests will also view a visual display depicting aspects of the experiences of the former students, many of whom plan to return home to attend the event.
Tickets are $25 per person, or $200 for a table for eight. Proceeds will benefit the EMH Center. For more information and to purchase a ticket, contact the EMH Center at 870-892-4433.
