The African American Preservation Alliance, Inc., a national organization dedicated to identifying and preserving historic African American sites and culture, will be meeting at the Eddie Mae Herron Center on Thursday, August 30 from 10 to 2 to discuss local African American sites for identification and preservation. Their emphasis this year is on cemeteries, especially those where slaves were buried. Anyone who’s interested is invited to attend.
Goals of the African American Preservation Alliance are:
- To raise public awareness of the value of African American cultural heritage and historic places throughout the United States and Greater Caribbean.
- To provide leadership, education and advocacy to revitalize historic African American communities.
- To encourage the organization of statewide networks and individual membership to increase minority participation in preservation
